What Year Was This?

I'd appreciate anyone who could help me find a date for these photos. I'm trying to figure out if one of the girls is my grandmother or great grandmother. The low quality of the photos is due to the fact that they are actually negatives.

The people in your pictures look slightly younger than some similar photos I've seen of my grandparents (born 1918 and 1924) in the 1940s. Good luck with the picture identification!

I am in no means a professional in this area, but I'd say early 1940's only because the hair and clothing is similar to that in photos of my own grandmother from the same time.

I'd guess 1940s too - but, are there any words at all on the edges of the negatives? Some film was only available during certain times, and that could help narrow it down further.

So consensus seems to be the 1940s. There's no writing on the negatives, but the type of film (116) was available from the 1890s to the 1980s.

If these are from the mid 1940s, that would make the girl on the right of the upper right photo my grandmother. She was born in 1931. With the low quality I've had a hard time judging ages. There are more photos in the series and in different photos the same people look different ages.

What about the bike? It seems like the one independent item that might be dated... perhaps a local bike junkie or bike shop for input? Someone somewhere would likely recognize the make and model. I agree with the rough 40's estimation, but it would be nice to have some clinical affirmation!

Jennifer, thanks for the suggestion. I posted the photo in a few bike groups on flickr - maybe someone will know something there.

In the bottom picture, the skirt is pretty short, possibly even a miniskirt. If it is, miniskirts came out in the 1960s.

I also noticed a ring on the woman in the bottom picture. It's hard to make out detail, but you might be able to use it to pinpoint who it is.

I've no experience in dating photographs but to me the clothing looks more like the 1950s.
